Undergraduate Awards

Local Chapter of the ACS Award: This award is given to one Junior and one Senior, preferably a B.S. candidate going into the field of chemistry. The award is determined by the student's G.P.A. The award for the Junior is $200, and for the Senior is $300.
MacNevin, McFarling, and Marconi Awards (Departmental): This award is given out by the Department of Chemistry. The amount ranges from $300 to $1000 and is given on the basis of grades, rank, and financial need. Multiple awards are given each year.
Autumn and Spring Quarter Undergraduate Research Scholarship Competition: This award is handled through the Honors Office in Denney Hall and is for undergraduates involved in honors research.
Hypercube Award: This award is given by Hypercube, Inc. from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Hypercube is the developer of HyperChem and other molecular modeling products. The award is given to a graduating B.S. chemistry student and consists of a copy of a software package entitled "HyperChem" and a commemorative plaque. The software package is valued at $1000.
Pfizer Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship in Synthetic Organic Chemistry: The recipients of this award spend one summer between the sophomore/junior or junior/senior year working on their own campus with a faculty mentor. This is a department-nominated award. The students receive $4,000 to support them in full time summer research. Awardees are invited to Pfizer Central Research in Groton, Connecticut in the fall following their research quarter to report on their independent research project.
Merck Index Award: This award is given to a student in the H251-252-253 class. The student receives a complimentary copy of the Merck Index.
CRC Freshman Award: This award is given to a freshman of the H201-202-203 class. The student receives a complimentary copy of the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics.
American Institute of Chemists Student Research and Recognition Award: This award, which is based on the G.P.A., is always given to a senior, preferably a B.S. candidate going into the field of chemistry. The student also receives a one year student associate membership in the American Institute of Chemists.
The Ohio Board of Regents Graduate Professional Fellowship Program: This is awarded to a student with a baccalaureate degree at an Ohio college or university that is either publicly assisted or private nonprofit, having a permanent campus in Ohio and holding a Certificate of Authorization from the Ohio Board of Regents. The student must plan to enroll full time to earn an advanced degree at an eligible Ohio graduate school or graduate professional school, and be a U.S. citizen. The amount is $3,500 each year for two years.
